Global Fashion Bloggers
October 12, 2015
Global Fashion Bloggers is a new digital publication featuring 11 fashion bloggers from cities around the world. The interviews represent a wide range of experience in fashion blogging. Some of the bloggers interviewed document the fashion culture of their particular city. Others provide insights based on their years of experience attending fashion weeks in the major fashion capitals as well as emerging fashion locales. Each blogger offers a unique perspective and participates as an ambassador of his or her local visual culture.
The featured fashion blogs are: The Sartorialist (New York), A Shaded View on Fashion (Paris), as well as Marinia M. (Helsinki), Irenebrination (Italy) Istanbul Fashion Addict, Lagos Street Syle, DisneyRollerGirl (London), Que Coman Pastel (Mexico City), Wearabout (Mumbai), Easy Fashion Paris, and I Am Alex Finch (Seoul).
The internet and other technologies have been transforming the way businesses and
people communicate and this digital publication is intended to arouse curiosity and
stimulate discussion about fashion and the myriad ways it is presented around the
world. We hope it raises questions, such as, what role does the internet play in communicating
a city’s fashion scene internationally?
The Global Fashion Bloggers digital publication launches on October 13th at the Global Fashion Capitals symposium at the Fashion Institute of Technology, as well as via The Museum at FIT’s
social media channels using the campaign hashtag #GlobalFashBlogs.
Global Fashion Bloggers was organized by Taina Laaksonen, an awardee of the Mobius Fellowship Program, in
collaboration with staff at The Museum at FIT. Taina Laaksonen is a Finnish producer
and fashion educator, active in several fields of digital culture. She has worked
for large cultural institutions, including both design universities in Helsinki and
at the same time in micro-projects around Europe. Taina Laaksonen has degrees in design,
digital culture, and entrepreneurship. The publication is a collaboration within the
disciplines of fashion, visual culture, and digital media.
This project would not have been possible without the generosity of The Finnish Cultural Institute in New York.
