Educational Collaborations
Cross-Pollination
The Museum at FIT's Cross-Pollination workshops offer college students at FIT and around the world an opportunity to collaborate with their international peers on fashion-based projects inspired by MFIT exhibitions.
Powermode (2020)
Students from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia participated
in two long-distance sessions for the Museum at FIT’s Cross-Pollination workshop.
During these conversations, they discussed and explored the exhibition Power Mode.
Minimalism/MAXIMALISM (2019)
This year’s workshop was a collaboration between students from the Fashion Institute of Technology and peers from LASALLE College of the Arts, who through sharing ideas and inspirations via an online platform, created fashion-based projects that expressed their interpretations of Minimalism and Maximalism.
Force of Nature (2018)

Masterpieces of the Collections (2012)
This workshop was organized by The Museum at FIT in conjunction with Mexico’s Atelier Romo and the Sala de Arte Publico Siqueiros (SAPS). Under the mentorship of artist Sebastian Romo and Tanya Melendez, MFIT’s curator of education, students from FIT and Atelier Romo interpreted MFIT’s costume collection and SAPS’ murals.
Eco-Fashion (2010)
Students from FIT and the Mexican school CENTRO shared their skills, diverse perspectives and interpretations of the MFIT exhibition Eco-Fashion: Going Green. In the summer of 2010, The Museum at FIT invited five students from each institution to investigate ecological sustainability in fashion and what that means to them. The two teams of students were then asked to work together to develop a joint project that would reflect their discoveries and conclusions. This workshop was organized in collaboration with the Mexican Cultural Institute of New York and Centro de diseño, cine y television. It was made possible in part through funding by the FIT Student-Faculty Corporation.
Fashion and Politics (2009)
Students from FIT and the Mexican school CENTRO shared their diverse skills and perspectives in order to help each other arrive at interpretations of the MFIT exhibition Fashion & Politics. The results of this online collaboration are published here on MFIT’s website. Organized in collaboration with the Mexican Cultural Institute of New York.
Collaboration with P.S. 33 Chelsea Prep:
Every year, MFIT partners with Chelsea Prep Elementary school (P.S. 33) to offer educational programming geared towards kindergarten students. The museum’s goals
are to engage children with our exhibitions and to provide experiences that support
their classroom curriculum. The program includes age-appropriate lesson plans based
on exhibition content in order to support visual literacy and to show students and
teachers that a fashion museum is a place where learning can be fun.
