Donations and In-Kind Gifts
Make a donation toward new acquisitions, conservation projects, or our strategic planning fund. You can make a financial gift of any amount and pledge that money toward one of the following areas:
- Conservation projects that help preserve objects or prepare them for exhibition Educational programs
- New acquisitions of contemporary and historic costume, textiles, and accessories for study and exhibition
- Online exhibitions for our website to inspire and educate those unable to visit us in person
- Strategic planning initiatives that will enable the Museum to have humidity and temperature controls in all the galleries and storerooms and that will allow us to purchase more media equipment for interactive exhibitions
For information about making an individual gift, please contact the Director's office at (212) 217-4530.
Donate an Object
Do you have something such as a dress by a major designer that you believe belongs in our museum? Please be advised that we usually only consider donations, not purchases. Start by contacting the Registrar’s office via email ([email protected]) or by calling (212) 217-4570. You must be able to send a description and images of your proposed donation. If emailing images, please limit the file size to 2mb. Information will then be forwarded to the appropriate curator. Please be aware that unsolicited donations are not accepted, and will be returned to the sender or disposed of.
What to expect:
Items are accepted or rejected on the basis of historical and artistic significance, as well as condition and the strength or weakness in that area of our collections. The Collections Committee meets twice a year to consider donations. A preliminary, pre-selection process is conducted more frequently throughout the year. You will be notified via email or phone if your donation is accepted for Collections Committee review. At that time, the donation should be available for viewing.
