Bequests

Donors can help strengthen the long-term viability of FIT with a gift of a bequest, by will or trust. It can be tailored to complement your personal lifestyle and financial goals and also support FIT.

A bequest gives you these benefits:

  • You have the personal satisfaction that comes from directing your own "social capital."
  • It is a simple way to make future gifts to the college and be recognized for it today.
  • It is a simple way to let FIT know of your commitment to its future and of your wish to leave a legacy for its students.

If you have not already done so, please consider putting FIT in your will or trust. Estate commitments have been and will continue to be a significant element in FIT's growth and continued success.

If you already have FIT in your will, please notify us so that we can ensure your wishes will be fulfilled. Your notification will be treated confidentially.
Testamentary gifts to FIT can take many forms:

Cash bequest: The Fashion Institute of Technology Foundation receives a specified dollar amount.

Bequest or devise of property: The Fashion Institute of Technology Foundation receives specified assets, such as securities, an interest in real estate (such as a residence), partnership interest, or tangible personal property (e.g. artwork, jewelry, or antiques).

Residuary bequest or devise: The Fashion Institute of Technology Foundation receives all or a percentage of the remainder of a donor's estate after specific legacies, debts, taxes, and estate expenses have been deducted.

Contingent bequest or devise: Property is distributed to the Fashion Institute of Technology Foundation only if the donor outlives his or her named beneficiaries.
