Learning Outcomes

Program learning outcomes are statements by faculty members that describe the most important things students will know and be able to do when they graduate from a program.

Associate in Applied Science Degree

Upon graduating from the Illustration AAS program, students will be able to:

  • integrate a comprehensive illustration “picture making” foundation including drawing, painting, conceptual, and digital skills in conjunction with basic photography and design to enhance visual communication proficiency;
  • apply a visual vocabulary, as well as critical thinking and problem solving skills to communicate the written word as means of creating industry oriented illustrations;
  • integrate and apply illustrative style, attitude, aesthetics, and techniques to create expressive visual communication imagery;
  • identify and employ professional and creative habits and discipline as a means of self-improvement;
  • present and communicate ideas and information visually and orally;
  • comprehend and apply the essential business practices and aspects of the illustration field emphasizing professionalism; and
  • develop a portfolio of artwork that demonstrates competency for admission into BFA programs and/or to enter industry.

Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree

Upon graduating from the Illustration BFA program, students will be able to:

  • demonstrate a personal illustration style and technique that uses both traditional and digital skills and incorporates acquired knowledge, experience, judgment, and unique aesthetic vision;
  • expand a visual vocabulary into personal visual expression and communication applications;
  • think critically, solve problems creatively, and produce portfolios of industry-oriented artwork;
  • fuse advanced illustration art, technology, entrepreneurial, and oral presentation skills in preparation for industry;
  • employ computer technology as a means of personal expression, as well as professional research and promotional applications, including the development of illustrators’ websites;
  • demonstrate professionalism and creative habits and discipline as means of self- improvement and commercial success; and
  • incorporate knowledge of art and illustration history, world history, social sciences, and other liberal arts subjects in producing effective illustrations.
