Film and Media Screening Series
Submitted by: Michelle Handelman, Associate Professor, Film and Media
This year-long speaker series brings to campus six notable filmmakers and directors for in-person presentations of diverse voices in film and media.
“Each filmmaker’s work,” writes Handelman, “represents an underrepresented group and cultural identity.”
The series kicks off in September with cinematographer Arthur Jafa, who worked on Julie Dash’s Daughters of the Dust and Spike Lee’s Crooklyn, and continues through the year with appearances and screenings by Jennie Livingston, director of the documentary Paris Is Burning, and Cauleen Smith, director of Drylongso, among others.
