How to Apply
FIT in Italy Programs
Log in to the online Study Abroad Portal using your FIT username and password.
FIT in Florence - Fashion Design
- Prospective 1st Year students must first submit a SUNY application.
Then complete the Study Abroad application. - 2nd Year or 3rd Semester students
FIT in Milan - Fashion Design
- 3rd Year students must first submit a Bachelor's Degree application.
Then complete the Study Abroad application. - 5th or 6th Semester students
- 7th Semester students
FIT in Florence - Fashion Business Management
- 3rd Year students must first submit a Bachelor's Degree application.
Then complete the Study Abroad application. - 5th or 6th Semester students
FIT in Florence - Liberal Arts
The FIT Online Application for Study Abroad will include:
- Motivational Statement
- Two Faculty Recommendations
A recommendation is a brief online form emailed to faculty from the online application. Students must obtain permission from faculty before inputting the recommenders' information into the online application. Students must request one recommender from their major area and the second from a liberal arts professor with whom they've taken a class.
Note: Please be aware that the department will be unable to consider your application until all materials, including recommendations, are received. Only complete applications will be reviewed.
Semester Abroad Programs
Log into the online Study Abroad Portal using your FIT username and password. Select "Search Programs" or scroll down to locate and apply to the program.
Remember: You must submit a Bachelor's Degree Application to the Office of Admissions if you are currently an Associate's Degree student who will be participating in a study abroad program at the Bachelor's Level. Students may apply for study abroad while their Bachelor's Degree Application is being reviewed by the Office of Admissions.

Short-Term Programs (Winter & Summer)
Log into the online Study Abroad Portal using your FIT username and password. Select "Search Programs" to locate and apply to the program. Non-FIT students must register first in order to create a username and password for login.
Eligibility: All Winter and Summer abroad courses require the approval of the course instructor. See course descriptions for prerequisites and instructor information.
The FIT Online Application for Study Abroad will include:
- DARS or Transcript
- Two Faculty Recommendations (if applicable, please check individual program pages)

CCIS & SUNY Abroad (Non-FIT Programs)
Students should search the CCIS/SUNY Abroad program options through the corresponding links above. Eligibility will be determined by the department's evaluation of courses for transfer credit. Log into the online Study Abroad Application using your FIT username and password. Select "Search Programs" or scroll down to locate and apply to either CCIS or SUNY.
The FIT Online Application for Study Abroad will include:

Important: Once your FIT Online Application has been submitted, students must then submit applications directly to the corresponding CCIS/SUNY programs. Contact the OIP to put them in touch with your CCIS/SUNY advisor and the OIP will share your recommendations and transcripts with them from your FIT application.
Tips for searching for a CCIS/SUNY Abroad program:
- Filter based on program type;
- Review your FIT DARS audit for incomplete courses;
- Review course descriptions of host institution for potential FIT course equivalencies;
*Note that course titles at host institution will differ. - Schedule an appointment with your Department Chair and/or Dean of Liberal Arts; and
- Approvals for transfer credit must be endorsed by the relevant department.
After Submitting Your Online Application
Application Review
Most programs require interviews, however some may request a portfolio in lieu of an interview. Please check the program page for details.
For FIT in Italy, Semester Abroad and CCIS/SUNY programs, students will be contacted with instructions specific the program or major. All students must complete a study abroad course plan.

For students who have filed a FAFSA, financial aid is available for semester and academic year abroad programs, but limited for summer and winter abroad programs. Please contact the Financial Aid Office to check eligibility.
Accept or Decline the Offer to Study Abroad
You will be notified by OIP via email that you have been approved for participation in the study abroad program. Log into your Study Abroad application to accept or decline this offer.
- For Semester Abroad programs, after your acceptance, you will also need to apply to and be officially accepted by the host institution. OIP will provide approved students with the application and follow up instructions once they have accepted the offer. Please review Cancellation, Refund & Withdrawal Policy before you make a decision. If you decide to withdraw your application before your interview, you MUST notify the Office of International Programs by email.
- For Winter/Summer Abroad programs, you will make an online payment of $60 application fee plus deposit (deposit amounts vary by program). This payment is fully non-refundable. Please review Cancellation, Refund & Withdrawal Policy before you make a decision. If you decide to withdraw your application before your interview, you MUST notify the Office of International Programs by email.
Pre-Departure Orientation & Documentation
- Orientation: ALL students studying abroad will be required to attend a mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation. Dates will be sent to you or found on the OIP Information Sessions Calendar.
- Documentation: Students are required to complete a series of online post-acceptance forms provided within your online Study Abroad application. Students must submit all forms in order to be eligible to participate. Many programs require students to submit additional forms and/or documentation.
- Study Visa: Some destinations require all participants to obtain a travel or study visa. In other cases, the visa requirement will depend on students' country of citizenship. Students are responsible for securing their own visas. OIP will provide guidance and supporting documentation.
