HFA 145: Design, Composition, and Color Theory

- Paper to use for sketching (9X11 or similar size)
- Watercolor pad or sketchbook (11 X 15 or similar size)
- Black and white acrylic paint
- Something to use as a palette
- Paint Brushes- A variety of sizes, one ¾-1 inch flat wash brush and acrylic flat or round brushes, #’s 0, 2, 4, 6, any or all if possible (no bristle brushes please!)

Materials for the first day of class:
- Soft, Medium and Hard charcoal pencils
- Pink eraser
- 18 x 24 inch drawing pad
- Plumb line (make one by tying a string to a ring of keys, a stone, or anything at all that has weight)
- Foam core or other rigid board to back up the pad if it doesn’t have a strong rigid backing (and a couple of clips to hold the pad to the board.)

- 2 pieces of 18”x24” grey charcoal paper
- 2 pieces 18”x24” color of your choice
- Black India ink
