Federal Work-Study

Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses.

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is awarded based on:

  • eligibility to file a FAFSA
  • a FAFSA application by the priority filing deadline
  • have financial aid need
  • your request on your FAFSA for Federal Work Study
  • availability of FWS funds

Work-Study Jobs

If you are awarded FWS funding, you are responsible for finding a work-study job; however, funding doesn't guarantee a job on campus. FWS is simply an opportunity to work.

Once you are granted and accept your FWS award, you will be required to attend a Student Employment Orientation. Orientation will give you an overview of the program and teach you how to look for jobs. You will also be required to read and sign a Rules and Regulations Contract yearly in order to participate.

If you are awarded and accepted your FWS award, you will be emailed your next steps towards orientation. After orientation, you will receive access to FIT's Student Employment portal.

Pay Rate

FIT Work-Study jobs are paid at the rate of $15 per hour and paychecks are issued twice a month for hours actually worked. FWS funds may not be applied to tuition, residence hall fees, or other school fees. You are responsible for making direct payments to satisfy your student account.

Policies

A FWS award does not guarantee a job on campus. If you decline a FWS award, you will not be offered work-study in the future.

Federal Work-Study is not automatically renewed each year. You must request it each time you fill out your FAFSA.
