FERPA
FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974) is a federal law known as the Buckley Amendment.
FERPA protects the privacy of a student's educational records and applies to all educational agencies or institutions that receive funds under any program administered by the Secretary of Education. As a result of this law, students must give written consent for interested third parties (including parents) to receive their specified financial aid or other educational information.
The FERPA Form for Financial Aid Services only covers the student's financial aid information. If you want to authorize Financial Aid Services at FIT to disclose financial
aid information to your parents and/or other people, please complete, sign, and return
this form to Financial Aid Services at Room A212-A. You may also mail your original
form, fax, or email a scanned copy to Financial Aid Services to the addresses on this
form. This permission is valid until you submit a signed letter revoking permission.
FIT takes various measures to protect personal data, including fulfilling its obligations under federal, state, and local law, as well as under the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation to the extent it is applicable.
