Draping Techniques

The Competency-Based Certificate program in Draping Techniques is intended primarily for those students who need to enhance their draping skills but do not wish to enroll in a degree program. The program consists of four sequential courses which are offered over a four-semester time span. Projects that incorporate both draping and patternmaking techniques are explored using a variety of approaches and methods in developing and analyzing patterns.

Entrance to the program requires a knowledge of clothing construction and/or tailoring skills. Students will be able to:

• recognize, evaluate, and execute diverse draping styles
• create original designs and patterns
• improve fitting techniques
• interpret and execute specific silhouettes, styles and market trends.

Curriculum

The program consists of four sequential courses offered over four semesters:

The courses do not replace draping courses in the Fashion Design degree track. Full-time and part-time Fashion Design and Patternmaking students may take them for extra credit or as free electives.
