Program Type: Semester Study Abroad
The American University of Rome (AUR), located on the crest of the Gianicolo in Rome, Italy, is committed to preparing students to live and work across the globe through its diverse multi-cultural student body and practical interdisciplinary majors. AUR pairs American practical know-how and technological capability with the Italian classical tradition of humanities and liberal arts. Rome’s history spans more than two and half millennia and regarded as the birthplace of Western civilization. Modern Rome remains the world’s most visited destination for its historic monuments and museums.

Eligibility
- Minimum GPA 3.0
- Matriculation in a Bachelor's degree program
- Advertising and Marketing Communications students must obtain academic advisement and approval of the Department Chairperson. Students may study during their 6th or 7th semester.
- Art History and Museum Professions students must obtain academic advisement and approval of the department chairperson/advisor. AHMP students may participate in their 6th semester.
- Fashion Business Management students must obtain academic advisement and approval of the Faculty Coordinator. Students may study during their 5th or 6th semester.
- Film and Media students must obtain academic advisement and the approval of the Chairperson/Advisor. Students may participate in their 5th or 6th semester.
- Entrepreneurship students must obtain academic advisement and the approval of the department chairperson/advisor.
- International Trade and Marketing students must obtain academic advisement and the approval of the department chairperson/advisor. Students should be in contact with Christine Pomeranz, department chair, prior to submitting an application regarding program choice. ITM students may participate during their 6th or 7th semester.
Course Information
A full-time semester course load at AUR is at least 12 credits of your choice plus a 3 credit Italian Language course. Additional courses will incur further tuition costs. As AUR is not an exchange program, any online FIT courses will be charged at the applicable per-credit hour tuition rate, in addition to the AUR tuition.
Italian Language
No prior Italian language knowledge required; however, all students must register for an Italian language class during their study abroad semester at AUR.

Advertising and Marketing Communications, Art History and Museum Professions, Entrepreneurship, and Fashion Business Management Course Information
Students may take major-area, related-area, and liberal arts courses with the department’s approval of the course equivalent.
Film and Media Course Information
Students will take a full course load of approved major area and related area courses that align with their semester of study and have been approved by their department. Liberal arts courses may be added with the department’s approval of the course equivalent.
International Trade and Marketing Course Information
ITM students may only take liberal arts courses abroad and they should be discussed in advance with the ITM department chair prior to having the Dean of Liberal Arts approve the course equivalents.
Academic Calendar
A detailed academic calendar can be viewed on the AUR website. AUR has a designated arrival date for FIT students during orientation week.
Accommodations
Students are responsible for making their own accommodation arrangements for the duration of their stay. American University of Rome offers faciliatated housing in two or three bedroom apartments.

Study Visa
Most students will be required to apply for a Study Visa for the duration of their stay in Italy. Students are encouraged to carefully review the Italian Study Visa requirements. Supporting documentation will be provided after approval.
Health Insurance
FIT requires all students to be covered in the U.S. and internationally for the duration of their study abroad program. Two types of coverage are required:
1. FIT requires students to be covered abroad for the duration of their program. This policy is mandatory, therefore students cannot waive it.
- Coverage abroad: UHC Study Abroad Insurance
*Students will be enrolled and account will be billed before start of program. More detailed information about coverage and claims processes will be provided post-approval.
2. FIT requires students to be covered in the U.S. for the duration of their program. Students may waive the Haylor insurance using the standard waiver process if they already have a U.S. based insurance policy with equal or better coverage.
