Eligibility
- Minimum GPA 3.0
- Matriculation in a Bachelor's degree program
- Advertising & Marketing Communications students must obtain academic advisement and the approval of the department chair/advisor. AMC students may participate in their 6th or 7th semester.
- Art History and Museum Professions students must obtain academic advisement and approval of the department chair/advisor. AHMP students may participate in their 6th semester.
- Graphic Design students must obtain academic advisement and approval of the department chair/advisor. GD students may participate in their 7th semester. GD students must also drop off a portfolio to Prof. Frederun Scholz (D-315) with 12 pieces of recent work.

International Trade and Marketing students must obtain academic advisement and approval of the department chair/advisor. Students should be in contact with Christine Pomeranz, department chairperson, prior to submitting an application regarding program choice. ITM students may participate during their 6th or 7th semester.
- Textile/Surface Design students must obtain academic advisement and approval of the department chair/advisor. Students may participate in their 7th semester.
Course Information
A full-time semester credit load at Ibero consists of 32-64 local credits. Major, related area, and liberal arts credit is available. Spanish language and certain minor courses may also be available to you, depending on your language level. As this is an exchange program, liberal arts courses may also be taken online at FIT at no additional expense.
Courses taught in Spanish | To navigate, choose your study level (“Licenciatura” = undergraduate; “Posgrado” = postgraduate) and your degree, click on “buscar”; please choose the option “SUJ (vigente)”. You will see the complete study plan of the chosen degree. By clicking on one of the courses you will be provided with detailed information. As an exchange student, you can participate in any of the courses offered at the Ibero (irrespective of the semester the course is assigned to in the Ibero study plan), as long as there are no special enrollment restrictions to a particular course and your language skills are sufficient.
Advertising & Marketing Communications:
Students may take major-area, related-area, and liberal arts courses with the department’s approval of the course equivalent. Students may take their full course load in English, though this will limit selection significantly. For any courses taken in Spanish, it is required to have a language certificate confirming B1 or B2 level. If B1, an intensive Spanish course must also be taken during the semester. The language certificate can come from the FIT professor confirming the CEFR level or a test taken at the Cervantes Institute office in NYC.

ITM students may only take liberal arts courses abroad and they should be discussed in advance with the ITM department chair prior to having the Dean of Liberal Arts approve the course equivalents.
Academic Calendar
Please view the most up to date information on the Ibero Academic Calendar. Typically the dates are from:
- early August - mid-December (Fall semester)
- beginning January - mid-May (Spring semester)
Students are generally expected to arrive the weekend before orientation begins.
Accommodations
Students are responsible for making their own accommodation arrangements for the duration of their stay. Students have a number of housing options (individual or shared) through Ibero's Housing Services.
Study Visa
U.S. students going for one semester will not need to apply for a student visa, since they enter as tourists.
Other nationalities may be required to apply for a Study Visa for the duration of their stay in Mexico. Students are encouraged to carefully review the relevant Ibero website and the Consulate's Study Visa requirements. Supporting documentation will be provided after approval.
Health & Wellness
Health Insurance
FIT requires all students to be covered in the U.S. and internationally for the duration of their study abroad program. Two types of coverage are required:
1. FIT requires students to be covered abroad for the duration of their program. This policy is mandatory, therefore students cannot waive it.
- Coverage abroad: UHC Study Abroad Insurance
*Students will be enrolled and their myFIT accounts will be billed before start of program. More detailed information about coverage and claims processes will be provided post-approval.
2. FIT requires students to be covered in the U.S. for the duration of their program. Students may waive the Haylor insurance using the standard waiver process if they already have a U.S. based insurance policy with equal or better coverage.

Wellness & Support
Ibero offers a number of services to aid our students in attaining their academic, professional and personal objectives. Some of these services include immigration procedures after arrival and housing in Mexican residences, as well as individualized counseling programs for students away from their home countries.
