Blended Learning Workshops
Students attend 3 face-to-face sessions at FIT and then are given a project or challenge to complete at home over the following two weeks. There will be an online “classroom” where students can find instructional resources, participate in discussions with their classmates, and post questions for their instructors.

HBL 001 Creating Apps for iPhones
Students will learn the fundamentals building apps and then apply these skills to
create their own app from start-to-finish. Students will learn step-by-step how to
build the basics of the visual structure and then add the functionality your app deserves,
including: multi-view, table view, picker view, scroll view and map view. No programming
knowledge is necessary, students will use prepared, ready to use text. There is no
prior experience required or even an iPhone required, students use an iPhone simulator
in class.
HBL 002 Learn Motion Graphics!
In this hands-on workshop students will learn to express ideas with animated text
and graphics including video, music, text and still images. Using Adobe Creative Suite's
Photoshop and InDesign software, this easy but dynamic course will help students deliver
content for smart media equipment such as iPads, iPhone or Android platforms. Technology
requirements: Students will work on MACs using a free trial of Adobe Creative Suite
for the duration of the course.

Drawing the Fashion Figure
Students will learn the basics of creating their own industry-standard, women's wear
croquis. Topics covered include how to execute a front view, female fashion figure,
introductory color rendering skills, and how to apply basic garment silhouettes. Fashion
design research skills will also be covered, so students learn how to capture design
inspiration from the world around them. A must for any portfolio submission!
HBL 011 Adobe Illustrator for Fashion Designers
Adobe Illustrator is a must for anyone looking to work as a designer in the fashion
industry. In this class students learn how to use this software to create digital
garment sketches and patterns while also learning the basics of building a professional
portfolio. Technology requirements: Students will work on MACs using a free trial
of Adobe Illustrator for the duration of the course.
HBL 020 Fashion Forecasting
See into the future of fashion. Forecasters predict upcoming fashion trends in colors,
fabrics, silhouettes, prints, textures, the list goes on and on! Learn the importance
of fashion forecasting as research in designing and developing products from textiles,
ready-to-wear, accessories, and retail. Course projects will include producing creative
fashion forecasting presentations: seasonal color cards, silhouette/fabric trend boards,
and multi-media presentations. Not recommended for students who’ve completed HSX 120.
HBL 021 Product Development: Apparel
Students will learn the fashion product development process from concept to product
approval. Beginning with fashion influences and trends, students will learn about
the processes of trend spotting and trend forecasting and identify important cultural
and geopolitical changes that will drive future fashion trends. Next, students will
determine what design elements and fabrications are appropriate for their target markets.
Finally, they will learn key considerations in costing a fashion garment and prepare
a simple product cost sheet. This business-based course requires no drawing skills
and is for any student considering a career in fashion marketing, fashion design,
or product development.
HBL 030 Surface Design and Product Mapping
Students will create original graphics, surface designs or patterns they can map to
virtual products such as apparel, accessories, skateboards, café interiors, office
building interiors, any place you can imagine…even inside the next space station!
Using Adobe Photoshop, students will apply their two-dimensional designs to any surface
to create a virtual product to include in portfolio submissions or as a part of an
actual business proposal.
